¡Revisionistas!

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

REVIZED (sic) aims to be an ongoing gallery of reinterpretations of design for music and film. The intention here is share your explorations. As a graphic designer, I’ve habitually held on to several of my unused designs–they’re like my babies–sometimes for future (re)use or inspiration, or as portfolio pieces.

Professional graphic designer or not, you are invited to submit your own designs to be posted here.

There are parameters, however. Here are the rules:

  • First and foremost, all submissions must be your own original work.

  • Specs:
Pixel width should be exactly 350px. One-sheet (movie poster): use any international standard proportions you want; suggested size: 350px x 531px. DVD: use the entire box size, as if you’re designing the outer sleeve/case or a slipcase/digipak; 350px x 493px.
HD-DVD/Blu-Ray: do NOT include the standard red or blue box, keep the design to the proportions of the entire box (i.e., not just the insert); 350px x 439px. I’ve never been a fan of those boxes.
 CDs: square or digipak (350px x 318px)
. The image file should be a high-quality jpeg and contain only the design itself, without any type of borders. Please do not submit 3D “skews” for package designs.

  • Send your submissions to revised.com@gmail.com and include your name (pseudonyms are fine), any comments, and a link to your website if you have one.

  • For now, I am the sole judge of submissions. Please don’t be mad if your design doesn’t get approved. This is just an effort to establish and maintain a standard of design quality.
  • As this is a new endeavor, these rules will be updated or revised accordingly. Thanks in advance for participating, and I look forward to seeing your work here soon!
